[SOLVED] Wireless networking problem

I have a siemens wireless SE587 for broadband, with two computers connected to it both running Win XP with SP2. The desktop is connected with no problems using an Edimax UEEE 802.11g wireless LAN PCI adapter.

The issue is my Dell laptop, an inspiron 2500 with a wireless-G Linksys adapter. I ran the same set-up software on both for Tiscali broadband.
With the laptop the set-up fails after I enter the WAP key, which works for the desktop. The error message states I have used the wrong key, which is definitely not a typo.

The linksys card is working, since I can access shared folders on the desktop. It can see the tiscali wireless network and signal strength is good, but it is unable to acquire a network address and says "limited or no connectivity". It said the same thing when i tried connecting to my neighbours unsecured wireless network.

Clicking on repair has no affect, however, if I first make a wired connection to the modem, then repair, the wireless connection starts working. I can then unplug the network cable and the wireless connection works fine until the computer restarts.

Within 'wireless connection properties' under the general tab the Desktop PC, which works, has an extra thing in the 'this connection uses the following items' window:
AEGIS protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v 3.4.10.0

Both computers have the 'use windows to configure my wireless network settings' box checked, both show the tiscali network followed by '(automatic)' in the 'preferred networks' window.

Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated
