[SOLVED] Modem -> Hub -> Computer + Acces Point -> Computer
Yeah, I'm, like, completely new to networking. I managed to get a wireless network working earlier, but that's just about all experience I have with networks ^_^
The problem is this: I have cable internet, and two computers that need to be connected to the internet. Unfortunately, the modem only has one port to connect a computer to.
I used to have a modem with 4..how do you call that, sockets or something? Anyways, the thing you can plug a network cable into. I had one directly from modem -> PC, and one from modem -> Access Point -> PC (using some USB wireless connector).
However, my current modem only has 1. So I tried the following:
A network cable goes from the modem to a hub, port 1.
Another network cable goes from the hub, port 2, to PC A.
Another network cable goes from the hub, port 3, to the Access Point.
PC B has a wireless USB thing that allows it to connect to the Access Point (specifics don't matter - it seems to connect to the AP perfectly).
On the hub, port 1 shows NO activity. Port 2 and 3 show regular activity.
On computer A, it fails to connect to the network; says it isn't assigned a network address by the network. No internet.
On computer B, it shows perfect connection the Access Point. However, it does not see computer A in the network, and it has no internet.
I'm using Windows XP on both computers. What am I doing wrong?
