You said it reduced the speed of your laptop after installing/adding RAM. This may be true if the RAM bought (especially USED from eBay). Since you cannot too sure which RAM stick is failing or is affecting the speed of your laptop (most esp. if you have 2 or more RAM modules installed.

My recommendation (you can choose which one to do first):
1. Remove the 'new' RAM and run Memtest86+ on the old RAM module. Run at least 3 passes. This usually takes an hour or two. Check for errors.

2. Remove the old RAM and run Memtest86+ on the new RAM. Run at least 3 to 4 passes (1.5 to 2 hours). Check for errors.
