The fact that the program has expired will render it virtually useless and ineffective.
You have a couple of alternatives here...
1: Contact Norton® and purchase a more up-to-date program; or
2: Forget about Norton® entirely, and venture on to a less resource hungry Anti Virus program.
There are a number of
free anti virus programs available; such as, AVG™ (made by Grisoft); Avast®, and Avira™, to name a few.
That's my 5˘ worth of advice.
