The reason speedster suggested the ram is because you mentioned purchasing a new 1 gig stick and his suggestion get you a matched pair witch is always a good idea.

As to your question, it really depends on what you do with the computer, 1.5 is plenty for XP in general computer use and you won't see much of a performance increase. But if you do video editing or play high end games it could help alot to install more
