Hi, welcome to TSF.

The I/O error means bad communication between the computer and the HDD.
Try another USB (or Firewire) cable.
Have a look in Device manager. Any yellow or red "marks"?
If that doesn't help - mount the drive inside a desktop PC (after you've taken it out of the enclosure, of course).
Just ask if you need help with mounting the drive.
