What is the model number of the IBM?
If it's really to old to boot to cd, then it is likely to old to run Windows XP.

BTW, the six floppies will work just fine.

One more thing, in order to install on one machine and and use in another you would need to do a repair install of Windows once it's in the 2nd or use Sysprep on the drive before removing it from the install machine.
