It seems like you're having a issue with the sleep mode. I'm afraid that HP technical support person advice might be right. It might be one of the most common issue in Vista. However, you can try to wake your laptop from sleep, and try pressing a few buttons on your keyboard for almost 10-15 seconds, see whether you can get your monitor back on. If its not, might consider wait for proper updates from microsoft then
