Thanks for the response-- sorry to be such a pain!!!

It occurs to me that since we got this laptop, NOTHING that connects via usb has worked properly-- is it possible that this is either a Vista or motherboard usb driver issue?

I'm going to have her hook up her ipod to see if that installs/transfers properly, and a thumb drive, and any hardware she can get her hands on to see if any of them will work or not.

I'll let you know how it goes.
