Well. These types of things usually depend on a couple of different factors in your case. Could you tell us what type of motherboard you are using? What type of ram you bought (a link to it would be great).

In my case I bought Crucial Ballistix ddr2 6400 800 ram and I know my board will take that ram but for some reason it wont. It dials it back also... just like your board is doing. If I try to force the ram to detect at 400mhz then the computer won't even boot. In my case I think it's due to the ram voltage. The voltage for this ram is 2.2v and the voltage settings in my bios only go to 2.1v so for me that's prob. The issue.

Post up your MB and lets see if there are any known issues with ddr2 800 ram.
