Compaq Presario V2000 fan is really loud

Hello,

I searched the forums and found nothing that could help me directly; however, as suggested in another thread to someone else, I downloaded SpeedFan, and this is what it says: HD0: 44C, Temp1: 52C, Core: 58C. What does this mean?

Well, here's my actual problem:

After i turn the laptop on, the fan works almost constantly with a few seconds-long breaks. The fan is really loud and sometimes disturbing.

After about a week, I cleaned out the fan area, and ran an anti-virus and adware/spyware program just in case something unwanted was on my computer. I also removed everything from my Startup folder in Start > All Programs. I also did Run > msconfig and unchecked everything under the Startup tab except the two Synaptics files (for my mouse), just in case any of the startup files were making the computer work harder.

Even after all of this, the fan still runs constantly but less than before after turning it on. Then I noticed that after I would put the laptop on standby and then returned from standby, the fan would work normally as it did when I originally bought it: only occasionally turning on, but still somewhat loud.

What could be the problem and what should I do to fix it? I need to fix this as soon as possible because I use this laptop during class and it can get very distracting at times.

Also, I'm not an expert with computers, so please explain anything as clearly as you can.

Thank you!
