memory clocks

Hi. bought some new ram to help support my pc. Before, I only had 1 gig, which for some games just isn't enough. I decided to buy 4gb of ddr2 800mhz ram.

when i got the ram, I installed it with no problems until i realised my pc was actually a bit slower. turns out the memory is clocked at 266mhz (533mhz)
I go to my BIOS settings and see that I have to manually change it to 800mhz to get that speed. I try it and my PC just doesn't want to load windows properly. I tried a couple more times. it loaded windows once, for about 5 seconds then restarts the pc. I lower the clock rating to 667mhz and windows loads up without a problem.

my motherboard is capable of memory up to 800mhz. So i was just wondering why this might happen. does anyone know a way to fix it? If not, I'm quite happy to continue using 667mhz clock speed, but I had hoped for 800mhz.

thanks in advance for any replies :)
