Running XP and Vista at the same time could be a problem. Your OS statement states both! If you upgraded from XP to Vista you may need to do a lot of upgrading before things will run right.. Could use more hardware information.
Low memory. Go to Control Panel/System/Advanced and check resource memory setting. Try setting it to Let Windows control it or manually increase the memory allotment. Better yet upgrade memory to 1 GB, no less that 512 MB.
Your CPU may be too slow for the multitasking.
