I'm wondering if this whole "I'm going to get a gun, go to a public place and kill a lot of people" thing isn't a precursor to home-grown suicide bombers.

It seems that this is a new thing, starting at about Columbine. I've not heard anyone in the media make a connection between this "American" phenomenon and it's Islamic Fundamentalist equivalent.
