Optical mice work better on plain surfaces. Is there any dirt under the mouse?
Have you tried the original driver off the CD?
If you don't have the CD, you could uninstall the Logitech driver and reboot, forcing Windows to use the built-in Microsoft mouse driver. You will lose the extra functions of the Logitech driver, but at least you'll be able to tell if it's the Logitech driver causing the problem.
