Re: Murtha breaks radical left-wing ranks
Yep, taxhikemike.org is certainly one of my most trusted sources for impartial journalism, but all the same I'm a bit disturbed that the first quote on the page was from The American Spectator. C'mon! Of all the rabid, right wing attack-rags is there any that defines the genre more than the Spectator?
Here's the thing: ultimately, governments (just like the rest of us) have to balance spending and revenue. That means that raising taxes isn't necessarily evil. Neither is raising spending. What really matters is how the money is spent. What I find offensive is cheap and sleazy attacks like taxhikemike.org. If you want to criticize Huckabee, there are lots of legitimate reasons.
Here's another thought or two on taxes, spending and budget deficits: When Reagan entered office he inherited a $789 billion dollar deficit. When he left office his legacy was a budget deficit of 2.191 TRILLION dollars. Yes, indeedy, he tripled the national debt in just 8 years. During his tenure in office, his budget requests totaled about 7314 billion dollars and those doggone spendy Democrats voted for appropriations totaling 7361 billion dollars; a difference of only $47 billion.
Then came Clinton. In two terms in office he left us with a budget SURPLUS of $127 billion. Under Bush, we are reaching record deficits once again; this time with a Congress controlled by Republicans during most of his term. For 10 points, identify the common thread in economic policy in both the Bush and Reagan Presidencies.
And just for the record, Murtha is a corrupt slimeball who should have gone to prison following the ABSCAM sting.
