Tried what you said in the first place; in the LAN connection under the General tab, highlighted TCP/IP, clicked on properties, checked the obtain IP address automatically. It shows the ethernet status as enabled and the window says connected. When you launch Explorer, it always gives a "server not detected/page won't load" error message. Explorer is not "seeing" the connection. The computer itself knows that it is hooked up to the ethernet, but somehow, it needs to communicate this to Explorer to see the TCP/IP address. Explorer thinks there is no connection.
