Laptop keyboard no longer functions correctly

First off, a little background. A couple of months ago, my laptop screen cracked. No longer usable. I sighed to myself and pulled out an old CRT monitor and converted my laptop into a desktop. At the time, buying things like replacement lcds was a luxury I couldn't afford.

A week ago, I was able to purchase a new lcd and was pleased as punch when I was able to replace the old broken one with my new one with relative ease. Boom! Laptop is cool now, right?

Not so right. After replacing the lcd, and booting my computer up again, I quickly realized I had a problem. The keyboard didn't work now. I hit the 'i' key and it types out, without fail, the character '5'. It does similar things with a couple other keys in that general area (u, o, i, p, l, k, j, ;, m) All of them are converted to different numbers when I hit those keys.

Help?

For clarification, I have a dell inspiron 1501 notebook. No problems besides the lcd replacement job. Never spilled a drink, or let crumbs fall into my keyboard. So why is this happening?

I'd appreciate some help here, thanks.
