Toshiba A85-S107, How do I clear the bios password?

A friends A85 has started coming up wanting the bios password. No password has ever been set and I need to clear it. Does anyone know how?
Is it as simple as disconnecting the CMOS battery or unplugging or unsoldering the bios chip for a period of time?

I have the expertise to do what is necessary, but I don't want to chance doing the wrong thing since it isn't my computer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
