My System

Re: Can't get three computers on wireless network to work with each other.

I went ahead and installed Quickbooks 2008 on all three machines and established the multiuser environment. In configuring the system I realized that the firewall was a problem. I disabled all the windows firewalls on each box today and everything behaved much better.

Clearly the firewall is at issue and despite my attempts to add exceptions to programs and ports it never seemed to work. I don't know if I should have another kind of firewall or just rely on the router's relationship with the internet to do that job for me. I could always get zone alarm or something like that if I should have a software wall on each machine.

Regardless of that, there were times when the machines didn't know which was in charge, and in fact one time when their was no master browser at all, and Quickbooks took a dive. The floating master browser thing is strange.

Is there a way to nail that down more?

Just leave the main box on and never let it go into standby?

These problems seem to be independant of wired vs wireless connections.
