Wireless connectivity/timeout issues

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-S331 laptop and I use wireless internet at home and when I am in my dorm for college. For the past couple of months, I have been having connection problems. It started all of a sudden one day without me doing anything. My drivers are up to date.

My connection always claims to be connected excellent at 48-56 mbps, but I notice timeouts/dropped connections with several things. AIM will disconnect and reconnect every 10-15 minutes and often I will just not receive some IMs from people. Sometimes when I am downloading things, the download will freeze somewhere before the end and will not allow me to start over. And when I try to watch videos (I'm not tech savvy and don't know what to call them--but things like on Youtube where the video slowly downloads while you watch it) the video will load to a certain point before the end, freeze, and not continue.

I'm seen lots of posts about this on other forums, but have not been able to find any clear answers on what to do. Can someone help me? Thanks very much.
