Cry [SOLVED] Maxtor 6Y160P0 no longer working

For over 2 years, I have been using a Maxtor 6Y160P0 harddrive and it has operated perfectly. It's an internal HD in a LaCie case so it could be used externally with a USB 2.0 connection. It's one of 3 external HDs I use to hold large files. The operating system (Windows XP) is not on it. Before yesterday, every time I turned it on it would immediately "autoplay". Now, the only indication that it's on and plugged in is that it shows up as a hardrive in the 'Name' and 'Type' columns of the 'My Computer' window. But the 'Total Size' and 'Free Space' columns next to them are blank. When I right-click on the HD letter (M) and go to 'properties', it says "the device is working properly". But when I double-click drive M it says "please insert a disc into Drive M".

I've had harddrives die on me before, but this seems different (wishful thinking?). For one thing, there's no change in the way it sounds - no grinding or clicking noises.

I don't have the installation disc that came with it. Also, I have no idea how to get it out of the LaCie case. Suggestions please! Would a new driver or other software possibly help? And if so, where should I go on the internet to get it.
