Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

Yeah, its the effects of the drugs that make you do things like that. Since the drug has no free will, we can't punish the drug.

Since not everyone who is hopped up on drugs kills people, we shouldn't ban the drugs anymore than we ban cars or hammers or rat poison or saws or other dangerous things just because they are dangerous.

Therefore the only thing left is to punish the user who 1) knowingly took a drug that could cause him to act in a manner that would lead to a crime being comitted and 2) committed a crime while on drugs. If I do cocaine and just have a jolly old good time on my property, why should I get raided by the police when I didn't do anything other than have a jolly good time in a different state of mind?

People do stupid things while drunk all the time. If we are gonna start banning things because they alter the mind or cause you to do things you wouldn't otherwise, then we need to ban alcohol. Otherwise all the drug prohibitionists are just hypocrites.

And please stop parroting the whole "drugs are expensive so everyone will sell their house and **** out their daughters to get their next fix"

Yes, people will probably still do this if drugs are legalized, but drugs will be cheaper due to regulation and legalization of the drug trade. Most of the plants that drugs come from are cheap and easy to grow (well, they would be if the DEA didn't throw people in jail for trying), and if we grow and manufacture our own drugs all those Colombian drug lords are suddenly out of business and within a few years, I bet it'd be a bit of a safer country since their aren't rich people with guns and drug interests crawling all over south america.
