. Anyway, that link is very convincing! But I'm still unsure about the connector.
An Armada 6500, according to that link, comes with a Toshiba XM-1802B cd rom drive. Fair enough, but when I googled it to find a picture of the connector I didn't find any, but apparently
according to this list of specs, it's an ATAPI connector. I searched image search for an image of an ATAPI connector, and got
this.
Now although in the same position as my laptop's connector, it looks substantially different to my connector:
