Just a question, when you tried the external monitor, did you plug it in
and then turn on the power? That is how you have to do it. Otherwise, the BIOS won't recognize the battery.
Keep in mind that the two different BIOSs could be slightly different. I am actually surprised the BIOSs were socketed.
Also, try swapping out the RAM. First re-seat each stick. Then, try running with one stick, then the other.
