Re: Updating from Basic to Premium
Well, good news and bad news... The bad news is after I bought the $70 upgrade I got to spend countless hours on the phone w/ Microsoft technical support who insisted I stay on the phone with them during the upgrade process while they asked me what I did for a living, how the weather was, what I did for fun. They kept trying different things, uninstalling programs, selective start-up, etc... They then got Gateway on the phone who once again was no help. After the 3rd or 4th attempt to upgrade, the Microsoft rep said the only thing that would work was a clean install. So that is what I did. Luckily the Gateway guy did have me create an application and driver recovery disk, and I had my personal files, install programs, and bookmarks on my second hard drive. So anyways, my computer is now running Vista Home Premium again and I am restoring things back to the way I had them. And with the retail purchase of Vista you get to install it up to 5 times and it can be more than one machine. By the way, the anytime upgrade is a farce, you later have to pay $200 the Microsoft rep told me. Thanks again everyone for your help.
