Simple Wireless Ad Hoc Network Problem

I don't really know how to state this problem. I'll do the best I can since I don't understand the problem.

I have a desktop running XP with a USB wireless Microsoft MN-510 adapter.
I also have a laptop running XP with built in wireless capabilities.

Two days ago my computer-to-computer network stopped working. Although in the taskbar on both computers the little wireless icon says that they are connected to the network I can't see the other computer from either computer. I tried pinging them with no response. I can't connect to the internet from my laptop either, like I used to do. Both are on the same workgroup (HOME).

I know it should be very easy to set up the 2 computers to communicate. I have read lots of posts and web pages but I still can't figure it out.

I have tried putting in a static IP address for both computers as well as having them both get it automatically. All firewall are off.

I am at a loss and getting very frustrated.

Thanks in advance,

Jamie L. Flora
