XP shut down/power down issues..
I've been having this problem for about 2 weeks and it hasn't really bugged me too much until now. My computer seems to operate just fine as I am working or gaming aside from a few CPU spasms here and there (probably from only having 512 MB of RAM). However, when I decide to turn it off, my computer will go through the motions. Settings are saved, windows shuts down, and.........hmm. Well, I was expecting it to shut down my computer, but I guess nowadays it has other plans.
You should know that I rarely use the start menu sources to shut down because my big power button on my tower does the same thing after configuring that in the power options. Speaking of power options, I've also noticed that I don't have an APM tab/option available. My motherboard (K8V SE Deluxe) does have power management enabled, but this fix that everyone claims to do the trick for the system hang can't work in my favor since I can't find a way to configure APM through my OS.
Hmph...well now that I was convinced that this was a conspiracy and God was just messing with me, I tired to shut down in good 'ol Safe Mode. That worked surprisingly well. No errors. Nothing. What's the problem?
By the way, I can still move my mouse during this "hang" but the screen is blank (Windows XP standard blue background). Since I'm able to move the mouse, the computer is still responsive at this point, yes? Please get back to me on this. I really appreciate it.
