First of all I've been using OutLook Express since it came out and OutLook before that so I don't anything about Yahoo Mail or HotMail.

But in both of the ones I use you have to specify a pop3 server for incoming mail and a SMPT server for outgoing mail.

If you don't see a post from one of the Pro's here in a couple of hours then connect to your mail service and look around for some mention of pop3 or smtp servers.

Remember I've used on-line mail services so this might be a complete waste of time.
